Kirramosa Primed for 2015 Zipping Classic

November 11th, 2015

John Sargent has been pleased with the form displayed by Kirramosa through recent weeks and has confirmed jockey Kerrin McEvoy will take the ride on the Group 1 winner in place of the suspended Damien Oliver in Saturday’s featured 2015 Zipping Classic (2400m) at Sandown.

Kirramosa returned to racing for credible fifth place finishes in each of the Fairfield RSL BM90 (1200m), Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m), but failed to produce much of a final straight sprint when tenth in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

Having finished an impressive third despite a luckless run in transit and saddle issues in the Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) last time out on October 28th, Sargent is confident that performance, behind subsequent Melbourne Cup eighth placegetter The Offer points towards a strong run in the 2015 Zipping Classic.

“She couldn’t really finish it off,” Sargent told AAP.

“That’s why she was running about in the straight but she still finished not far away.

“The Offer ran well in the Melbourne Cup and the second horse (Divan) won on Saturday. So it’s a good form line.”

Sargent initially outlined plans for Kirramosa to run in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington over the weekend but was forced to chance paths to the 2015 Zipping Classic.

“She got a stone bruise in the middle of last week so we couldn’t start her in that,” Sargent said.

“But it’s all cleared up and she had a good gallop today and she’s right on track.

“I’m very happy with her and she’ll go in there fighting fit. As fit as I can get her.”

Capping a standout 2013 campaign with success in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), Kirramosa was unable to reach the same racing heights through a short 2014 campaign; placing fifth in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) most notably but failing to make anything of an impact when beating only one runner home in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m).

The 2015 Zipping Classic final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday today (Wednesday, November 11th).
