2013 Zipping Classic – Final Field & Barrier Draw

November 13th, 2013

The final field and barrier draw has been released for the 2013 Zipping Classic (2400m); with Precedence and Sertorius set to do battle for the second week in a row, in the Group 2 event.

Precedence and Sertorius will lock horns again in the Group 2 Zipping Classic at Caulfield on Saturday.

Precedence and Sertorius were locked in a ding-dong battle up the famous Flemington straight in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) on Saturday, with Precedence narrowly prevailing, and the contest even went into the stewards’ room after Precedence made contact with Sertorius in the final stages of the races.

Precedence was able to hold onto the race, making up for the disappointment of not making the 2013 Melbourne Cup final field, and will be chasing his third straight victory at Group level in the Zipping Classic this weekend.

Also backing up from Emirates Stakes Day will be Gai Waterhouse-trained Queenstown who was narrowly denied victory in the Group 2 Momentum Energy Handicap (2000m) by Team Hawkes-trained Girl Gone Rockin’.

Queenstown has not missed a placing in any of her four runs during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival but is still chasing her first victory at Group level after a poor ride from Thomas Huet cost her Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) in Sydney and she was caught on the line in the Matriarch Stakes.

Another galloper looking for their first victory at Group level is imported stayer Midsummer Sun who flew home late to finish second behind Salon Soldier in the Listed Cup Day Plate (1800m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day last Tuesday.

Midsummer Sum has performed well since arriving in Australia but will need to find improvement as he flopped in his previous attempts at Group level in the Premier’s Cup (2200m) and Brisbane Cup (2400m) during the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

One of the most interesting runners in the 2013 Zipping Classic final field is Kiwi gelding Ransomed who will be racing in Australia for the first time in his career.

The sons of Handsome Ransom started his spring campaign with disappointing performances at Wanganui and in the Group 1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m) before recording his maiden Group 1 victory in The Turks Spring Classic (2040m) at Hastings on October 5.

Rounding out the 2013 Zipping Classic final field are: What’s In A Name, Epingle, Detox, Kazanluk and Miss Zenella.
