Mourayan Seeks Redemption In Zipping Classic 2011

November 9th, 2011

Mourayan’s owner Lloyd Williams is eager for the horse to produce a win in this Saturday’s Zipping Classic on November 12, 2011, after his Melbourne Cup withdrawal.

The five-year-old was a late scratching from the $6 million Melbourne Cup due to a foot injury and now Williams is searching for the consolation prize.

Williams is hopeful Mourayan can outdo last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Americain.

“I’m moderately confident he will run very well but Americain obviously is the one to beat,” Williams said.

“I think with average luck he (Americain) probably should have won the Melbourne Cup (this year).

“He’s the benchmark and at the weights he is very well weighted, but I couldn’t be happier with our horse.

“He (Mourayan) has had a week off and I think a little bit of a freshen up will probably suit him.”

Mourayan has won three of his 27 race starts and has earned more than $800,000 in prize money.

His most recent performance was a second to Glass Harmonium in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes.
